By the year 2030, the number of new cancer cases worldwide is projected to rise to 21.3 million an- nually, up from the estimated 12.7 mil- lion cancer cases currently diagnosed. Of the 21.3 million new cases every year, approximately 70% will be from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), many of which lack the healthcare programs required to effectively manage their current cancer burden, much less that predicted for 2030. Moreover, the ratio of mortality to incidence will continue to be significantly higher in LMICs (64% to 75%) than in high-income countries (46%).
